Dirty Detours is a small friendly mountain bike touring company, local to Margaret River. Being avid travelers and insatiable riders ourselves, we take having fun very seriously, and showing you a good time is our profession.

J.D. (Fearless leader), was previously employed with the National Parks Service, and spent many years as a trekking guide and cave leader in Australia and overseas. Then came the bikes.

Dirty Detours began to evolve in 1998 while he was working in Taiwan, the production heart of the mountain bike industry. Over a 4 year period his mountain bike hobby began to transform through different stages into - construction, sales, racing, and eventually tours. Prior to leaving Taiwan, JD was approached by Time magazine to lead a tour through Borneo, but Dirty Detours was on the move.

The idea was always there to create a mountain bike tour company in his beloved Margaret River. The closing months of his tour of duty in Taiwan were used to hand source the best bikes and components for the job ahead.

It has been a long and winding road, with Dirty Detours clients the eventual winners, picking up the benefits of the lessons learned en-route.

The Dirty Detours team is very easy going and environmentally aware. They are skilled bush navigators, can strip a bike blindfolded, and once won a trophy in under 12’s football!
